Steps & Yoga Poses for Kids

As more and more parents look for ways to keep their children active and healthy, yoga is increasingly becoming popular. Not only does yoga help children stay active, but it also offers various benefits, such as improved flexibility, balance, and concentration. In this blog post, we will discuss some easy-to-follow steps and yoga poses for kids that you can do with your child.

Step 1: Setting up the space

Before you start with yoga, you should ensure the space you'll use is suitable. The room should be quiet and free of any distractions. A yoga mat or a blanket may also be helpful.

Step 2: Warm-up exercises

After setting up the space, start with warm-up exercises to prepare your child's body for yoga. Begin with simple stretches such as arm and leg swings, side bends, and neck rolls.

Step 3: Yoga Poses

After the warm-up exercises come the yoga poses, here are some easy-to-follow yoga poses that are perfect for kids:

Mountain Pose (Tadasana)

Stand tall with your feet together and your arms at your sides. Take a deep breath, and as you exhale, press your feet firmly into the ground and raise your arms overhead. Hold this pose for a few seconds before releasing it.

Tree Pose (Vrikshasana)

Stand tall with your feet together. Place your right foot on your left thigh. Inhale and raise your arms over your head. Stay in this position for a few seconds before returning to the original position. Repeat the same with your left leg.

Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)

Begin on your hands and knees. Stretch your arms and legs out and lift your hips upward. Keep your head and neck relaxed. Hold this pose for a few seconds.

Butterfly Pose (Baddha Konasana)

Sit down with your legs stretched out in front of you. Bend your knees and bring the soles of your feet together. Hold onto your feet and gently flap your legs up and down like butterfly wings.

Cat-Cow Pose (Marjariasana-Bitilasana)

Begin on your hands and knees. As you inhale, arch your back and look up towards the ceiling. As you exhale, round your back and tuck your chin towards your chest.

Step 4: Cool-Down Exercises

After practicing yoga poses, it's essential to cool down. Some cool-down exercises include lying on your back, hugging your knees to your chest, and breathing deeply.

In conclusion, yoga is an excellent way for children to stay active and healthy while improving their mental and emotional well-being. Practicing these easy-to-follow steps and yoga poses for kids is a fun way to bond with your child while taking care of their physical and mental health.

Remember to keep it simple, and let your child lead the way with what feels most comfortable and enjoyable to them.
