The Sacred Web Tarot Panel Discussion

Newly opened, Household Books will host The Sacred Web founders for a moderated discussion exploring the creation of the deck and the cultural elements of tarot which has its roots as a card game dating as far back as the mid-15th century. Despite contemporary popularity, the tarot's core iconography including the major and minor arcana have remained widely unchanged. The Sacred Web reimagines traditional Tarot, instead, envisioning the cards as touchstones that can guide each of us on a mindfulness, self-care journey void of the traditional binaries that can act as gatekeepers to enlightenment. Household Books will also have The Sacred Web Tarot Deck and Guidebook available for sale at both events for guests interested in taking The Sacred Web experience home or sharing the gift of self care with friends and family during this holiday season. The Sacred Web Tarot is an inclusively holistic experience written and illustrated by Dayton, Ohio residents and mother-and-son team, Jannie Bui Brown and James Brown IV. During his recovery from a traumatic brain injury, James took solace in and found healing through art. Inspired by the natural world and the non-judgmental creatures who roam the Earth and fly through the skies, James began sketching images that would eventually come to life in the form of tarot cards. He shared these images with his mother who, in collaboration with James, created The Sacred Web Tarot Deck and Guidebook. Inspired to reapproach the narrative around traditional tarot, the mother and son created The Sacred Web as a multi-spiritual, transformative tool for self-reflection and insight that subverts the tarot canon to combat the gender binary and deepen reader's spiritual experiences. Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
