African Journeying WITH ANCESTORS, NATURE AND SPIRIT

John Lockley is a traditionally trained Sangoma (African Shaman) from the Xhosa nation, the same tribe as Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. He will be offering shamanic teachings from South Africa; focusing on ancestors, Ubuntu (humanity) and dreams. A key question is ‘what does it mean to be a human being?’ And ‘How can we realise our humanity?’ In Africa to connect with spirit means to dance and sing. John leads his talks like a ceremony, with storytelling, dancing and chanting in the Xhosa language. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn about one of the oldest shamanic cultures in the world, the sangoma medicine people from South Africa. John Lockley is one of the first modern white men in recent history to become a fully initiated Xhosa sangoma (African Shaman). His journey begins while working as a medic in the South African military towards the end of apartheid. He trained extensively under Zen master Su Bong in South Korea before returning back to post-apartheid South Africa where he spent 10 years in apprenticeship with MaMngwevu, a medicine woman from the Xhosa tribe. She named him Cingolweendaba, meaning the messenger or connector between people and cultures. John now splits his time teaching in South Africa, Ireland, Europe, and the US, facilitating 'Way of the Leopard' retreats.

College of Psychic Studies
HOST:
College of Psychic Studies - The College was founded in 1884 by a group of eminent scholars and scientists. Its purpose was to facilitate formal investigation into the psychic and mediumistic phenomena that were such a topic of debate in the Victorian era. With great courage, this group of distinguished people, some notable in science, others from within the ranks of the Anglican clergy, defied the prevailing canons of respectability in order to proclaim to a world of increasing materialism that human personality survives bodily death and that this is capable of demonstration.
