Dhamma Dipa Vipassana Meditation Centre Open Day, 19/07/2026

A meditation centre in rural Herefordshire is offering visitors the chance to try an ancient, non sectarian meditation technique, that focuses on reality and the simple truth within us all. The gesture is part of the Dhamma Dipa Vipassana Centre's regular open day which, this year, will kick off at 2pm on Sunday 19 July and end at about 6pm. The Centre at Pencoyd, in-between Ross-on-Wye and Hereford, is keen to engage with the wider community and welcomes all who wish to learn about the work it performs. Visitors to the open day can look forward to a guided tour of the centre, introductory talks and films about Vipassana Meditation, optional meditation 'taster' sessions, woodland walks and complimentary cream teas. The event is free of charge and all are welcome. The centre holds regular ten day residential courses for 128 participants and is funded by voluntary donations. People come from all walks of life and all backgrounds and ages. Many who do the course find it transformational, enabling them to make positive changes for the better in their daily lives. The site is interesting in itself. It was previously a residential equestrian centre for children and before that a farm. When it became a meditation centre in 1991 it consisted of the old farm house and a variety of stables and accommodation blocks. Since then it has changed dramatically by conversion of the old stables into accommodation and the building of a modern Meditation Hall and other purpose built facilities. Just this Spring a new accommodation building has been opened with single en-suite accommodation. The previously rather bare open grassland has been planted with thousands of trees which have grown up in the last 35 years and become a beautiful woodland, filled with native wild daffodils and snowdrops in the Spring. The woodlands provide a relaxing place where meditators take gentle exercise. The garden areas are evolving all the time and include a new 'jungle style' garden and a 'courtyard garden'. To find the Dhamma Dipa Vipassana Meditation Centre, follow signs to Pencoyd from the A49, then take the second lane on the right. Time: 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
