Experiencing the Future: Precognition, Time and Consciousness; Altered or Otherwise

From dreams to drugs, altered states repeatedly give rise to occasional inexplicable experiences of future events. But what of those predictions arising from the sober passages of consciousness? And can we ever know genuinely, what will happen before it does, or are we destined to only ever drive forwards looking in the rear-view mirror, only finding out what is prophesied after the fact? Drawing from the last 137 years of scientific psychical research and parapsychology, and the speaker’s own extensive research, we will attempt to discover if the divinatory and mantic arts are due to romantic hearts and self-delusion or if scientific rigour can demonstrate true prescience. In this talk David will explain what is currently understood about the nature of precognition, divination, and prophecy, and the techniques that have been demonstrated to seemingly aid these abilities.

College of Psychic Studies
HOST:
College of Psychic Studies - The College was founded in 1884 by a group of eminent scholars and scientists. Its purpose was to facilitate formal investigation into the psychic and mediumistic phenomena that were such a topic of debate in the Victorian era. With great courage, this group of distinguished people, some notable in science, others from within the ranks of the Anglican clergy, defied the prevailing canons of respectability in order to proclaim to a world of increasing materialism that human personality survives bodily death and that this is capable of demonstration.
