The Voice as Healer, Empowerer and a Changer of Consciousness

Within the sound of each of our individual voices there is the potential to transform and empower the lives and health of ourselves and those we come into contact with each day. Drawing on a mixture of science, philosophy and ancient knowledge, and using sounds from world cultures and shamanic traditions, Derek will explain and show, in one-to-one demonstrations with members of the audience, the real effects of how vocal sound and the overtones contained in the colour of the voice have the power to change consciousness and begin a process of healing and metamorphosis. Central to Derek’s work is an emphasis on the power of breath, intention and truth. He will outline the importance of applying these principles to how we use our voices, and the responsibility we carry in doing so. This introductory lecture to Derek’s work, developed over many years during his professional musical life, will offer a relevant key: To those who use their voices for communication on a daily basis – in business, teaching, counselling, advising or consulting - and wish to explore, develop and use the hidden potential of their voices more effectively. To any professional practitioner in the field of music, drama or voice, or working in a therapeutic setting, or anyone aspiring to work in these fields where breath and intention play a role. To those who wish to work with vocal sound as a path to healing and transformation.

College of Psychic Studies
HOST:
College of Psychic Studies - The College was founded in 1884 by a group of eminent scholars and scientists. Its purpose was to facilitate formal investigation into the psychic and mediumistic phenomena that were such a topic of debate in the Victorian era. With great courage, this group of distinguished people, some notable in science, others from within the ranks of the Anglican clergy, defied the prevailing canons of respectability in order to proclaim to a world of increasing materialism that human personality survives bodily death and that this is capable of demonstration.
