The Shamanic Path - Exploring Different States of Consciousness

What defines a shaman is his or her ability to go into a trance state at will, to contact and interact with invisible, spiritual realms. They are masters of altered states of consciousness. But how are these different states reached? And how can we tell whether we are experiencing genuine spiritual realms as opposed to getting lost in the fantasies of an over active imagination? In this talk we will explore different means of altering consciousness, all the way from spontaneous mystical openings through to potentially psychotic experiences, and finally to the use of tools such as the drum or teacher plants. We will look at the pitfalls of such endeavours and more importantly how to develop capacities to bring the wisdom received in the other realms back safely into our everyday lives.

College of Psychic Studies
HOST:
College of Psychic Studies - The College was founded in 1884 by a group of eminent scholars and scientists. Its purpose was to facilitate formal investigation into the psychic and mediumistic phenomena that were such a topic of debate in the Victorian era. With great courage, this group of distinguished people, some notable in science, others from within the ranks of the Anglican clergy, defied the prevailing canons of respectability in order to proclaim to a world of increasing materialism that human personality survives bodily death and that this is capable of demonstration.
