Introduction to Buddhism

Looking for a clear run-down of essential teachings and practices at the heart of Buddhism? Join us for this course on key aspects of the Buddhist tradition, and how they’re relevant to us in the modern West – and how you can apply them in your day-to-day life if you choose. Classes will include a mixture of discussion, presentation and optional “take-home” reflections, along with an experiential taste of Buddhist meditation. The course will give you experience and understanding to underpin participation in our drop-in classes, and is also an ideal foundation for further courses on offer at WLBC on specific aspects of Buddhism. No experience or knowledge of meditation or Buddhism needed. This course runs over six weekly meetings, though with no class on bank holiday Monday 2 April. Week 1: The Buddha and his significance today Week 2: Buddhist ethics – in principle and in practice Week 3: Meditation and the mind Week 4: Wisdom – a Buddhist framework for living life and understanding reality Week 5: Buddhist ritual, symbols and mantras Week 6: Community – its nature and significance in Eastern and Western Buddhism West London Buddhist Centre Porchester Road London W2 5DP Price: £40 – £120
